Denison is a residential housing program that provides 24-hour support services and housing to 5 individuals living with HIV/AIDS. People can apply for, access and receive services in the gender with which the applicant/service user identifies and is most comfortable. Services include a full range of support services, as well as meal and transportation services.

Clients have their own bedroom and share common facilities like bathrooms, the kitchen, the living room, and the yard. Rent is geared-to-income, as set out by the Ministry of Housing. Clients are encouraged to take responsibility, as much as their health permits, for their own care and for the house.

Fife House owns Denison and is fully responsible for support services, as well as waiting lists, building maintenance, property management, rent collection and tenant evictions, as well as for support services.

Denison staff also provide support services to 18 persons at three satellite locations in the area: Pears, Leonard and Sudbury.  Residents in these independent units are required to meet regularly with staff to develop and review case management and plans.  Staff are available to assist with a variety of activites as needed and residents in these satellite locations have access to all agency-wide programs provided by Fife House to our other cleints.

Denison is located near Spadina and Dundas (in the Kensington Market Area).

Denison Renovation

As the beneficiary of the 2014 ROI Initiative (Renew, Originate, Implement) of ARIDO, the house received a complete main floor renovation.  This included a new and expanded kitchen, a new barrier-free bathroom, new flooring throughout the main floor and bedrooms and halls, refurbished bathrooms upstairs and fixtures and furniture.

All materials, services and furnishings were donated by members of the association and we are extremely grateful that they chose Denison as their 2014 project.  The renovation greatly enhanced the living conditions and quality of life for the residents, as well as the 18 other men and women who are supported by staff.  CLICK HERE here to see the plans for the main floor.

Residents moved back  to a completely 'new' environment that allowed for communal participation in meal preparation and dining.

An Open House was held for members of the design team, contractors and staff to celebrate the wonderful results.  Click on the photo below to see some photos of the reconstituted space and the party.
